SANTA FE (KRQE) – Ortiz Middle School was put on lockdown Thursday after a student brought a gun on campus, according to the chief of staff of Santa Fe Public Schools.
Officials say no one was injured or threatened, and that the gun was found in a backpack. The gun was collected by officials and the school was evacuated.
Lt. Gutierrez with New Mexico State Police said that students were taken to the Law Enforcement Academy at Cerrillos Road and Jaguar Drive. Parents were able to pick up their children there and students who ride the bus were able to catch their normal bus route from the academy.
Police detained four students for questioning regarding the incident. Police have released three of the students and one is still being questioned by police. Santa Fe police say the weapon that was found was a handgun.
