Never Hungover not connected to Balloon Fiesta

Never Hungover not connected to Balloon Fiesta

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – One company that’s promoting its beverage as the official drink of the Balloon Fiesta isn’t actually connected to the event, and Fiesta officials say that’s not sitting well with them.

A billboard along Paseo Del Norte flashes the message to drivers, “Never Hungover. The official drink before you drink of the International Balloon Fiesta.”

The problem: Never Hungover is not associated with the Balloon Fiesta.

“It sounds like they might be positioning themselves as some type of connection to Balloon Fiesta,” said Tom Garrity, media relations director of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. “That organization does not have a connection to the event.”

Balloon Fiesta is recognized worldwide as the trademark for the internationally-acclaimed event.

“Different groups have infringed the copyright and the trademark of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and Balloon Fiesta, and yes, Balloon Fiesta has taken action on groups before,” Garrity said. “We’ve reached out to the organization and have asked them to remove that wording that refers to Balloon Fiesta.”

While alcohol is served within Balloon Fiesta park, Garrity said they promote a safe, responsible event. He said Never Hungover isn’t a part of that.

“For a product like that to be connected or trying to connect itself with us, it just doesn’t align with what our values are,” Garrity said.

Never Hungover was created by the Maloofs, a famous New Mexico family known for its business in the alcohol industry. KRQE News 13 reached out to Never Hungover, but did not receive a response by press time.
