Suspected jerky thief knew the business

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A suspect accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars worth of beef jerky knew the ins and outs of the New Mexico business.

Albuquerque police say earlier this year, Mark Torres was employed by the Old Santa Fe Trail Beef Jerky Company. His job was to deliver the product to the stores and make commission, but police say he kept it and lied about selling it.

Police say the company paid him about $30,000 in commission that he never made.

According to the criminal complaint, after he was fired, he stole the delivery truck with more jerky inside.

Officers say they found the snacks in Torres’ home, and on Sunday, he faced the judge. APD says he stole about $70,000 worth of jerky.
