ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Despite being moved far from Balloon Fiesta Park this year, the Rio Grande Arts and Crafts Festival at Expo New Mexico is going well.

The event has gone hand-in-hand with the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta for 25 years, sitting right off the interstate near Paseo del Norte.

This year, however, construction trucks have eaten up the ground that used to house the festival, so the event had to move. Organizers say the change is working.

“People found us at our new location which we were a little worried about, but the crowds are here and everyone is seeming to enjoy the new venue,” said event organizer Liz Gore.

Before the Arts and Crafts Festival kicked off, organizers had to make an emergency run to Phoenix to get another event tent. A huge gust of wind blew the first tent down last week. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
