Balloon thief steals family heirloom

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A hot air balloon was stolen from the Nativo Hotel early Saturday morning, along with a tan 1994 Chevrolet Suburban and a trailer.

Lucinda Wallace and her daughter, Marilyn Wallace, were visiting Albuquerque to fly a balloon in the Fiesta to honor Lucinda’s late husband, who passed away just 10 days before the event, police said.

The mother and daughter said the balloon has been in their family since 1981 and has been flown all over the United States and Europe over the years.

The balloon is blue with a rainbow design on the top, and an American flag on the side. Police are hoping the public can help find it along with the trailer and Suburban with the California license plate BALUNER.

Those with any information about the balloon are asked to call police. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
