CHAMBERINO, N.M. (AP) – Dona Ana County Sheriff’s deputies say a robbery suspect somehow escaped custody and remains at large. Authorities say two people were robbed at knifepoint following an altercation with three suspects shortly after 1 p.m. Friday in Chamberino.
Deputies identified the suspects as 30-year-old Vito Carrasco, 22-year-old Kevin Cadena and 33-year-old Myra Villela. All three, who know the victims, were located after their vehicle got stuck. Carrasco and Cadena were transported to Dona Ana County Detention Center but Villela was able to flee.
A SWAT team standoff at a home where Villela was believed to be hiding was cleared after several hours. Villela is described as 5 feet tall, 120 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
The other two suspects face charges of robbery, tampering with evidence and battery.
