ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Families, caregivers, charities and research groups across the United States are observing September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In the U.S., 15,780 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer every year; approximately a quarter of them will not survive the disease.

UNM and the cancer research team there have made incredible strides in discovering new treatment options, tailoring existing ones, and making the overall experience for a patient and their family more bearable.
