Water tests offered to Carlsbad residents

EDDY COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The New Mexico Environment Department is offering free water testing for Carlsbad residents with private wells.

Officials said the testing will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the department field office located at 406 N. Guadalupe, Suite C, in Carlsbad. Specialized bottles used for testing water can be picked up at the same location.

Drinking water will be tested for E. coli, flouride, iron and nitrate, officials said. For more information, call the environment department at 575-885-9023.

Officials continue to remind residents not to drive past barricades on closed roads. Crews are determining what repairs will be necessary.

The National Guard is still on standby.

Eddy County remained under flood warning until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, although stream flows are decreasing. Officials said the Black River flow, however, could pose a negative problem for several roads.
