ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Heavy rain over the past few days have caused a lot of flooding in Carlsbad and Eddy County. Today schools in Eddy County are open after closing Monday because of the flooding. Dozens of people had to be rescued from the rushing water. People in the area say this is the worst flooding they’ve seen in a decade.

People in southeastern New Mexico hit by flooding have been advised to boil their water. The state has issued a precautionary boil water advisory near the Pecos River, just to be on the safe side. The state is encouraging people to boil water for five minutes before cooking or cleaning with it, or drinking it, or use bottled water.

Internationally this morning, the United States and five Arab allies are now bombing ISIS strongholds in Syria. They launched the strikes overnight. They come as world leaders gather for the United Nations General Assembly in New York to talk about how to defeat the terror group.

Henry the Tortoise is going home today. He wandered away from The Jurassic Pet Store near Cerrillos Road and St. Francis Drive in Santa Fe, then ended up in an animal shelter. After he was recovered, it was learned that Henry’s been a regular fixture at the shop for about the past decade.
