More vendors to be present at Balloon Fiesta

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is nearly here and on Tuesday, some new additions were announced.

This year there will be more space for concessions, meaning more food and more vendors

Guests can expect to see 500 balloons at the fiesta; that’s the maximum number allowed.

“In the year 2000, I think we had 1,000. It just gets hard to manage from a lot of different perspectives,” said Event Director Don Edwards. “On the field, it gets really crowded going from two waves to three waves which puts balloons in the air later then normal. And on the field, it’s really crowded and those are a lot of the things we looked at, and it was a lot of safety decisions.”

Some other new additions include a contest called Oh Say Can You Sing where people will sing the national anthem.

Also, the arts and craft tent featuring about 40 artists has been renamed Artisans at Balloon Fiesta Park.

The fiesta kicks off Oct. 4. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
