SILVER CITY, N.M. (KRQE) – Police are searching for two New Mexico inmates who escaped from the Grant County Detention Center Thursday.
Officials say, Adam Martinez and Tyler Cole escaped from the Gray County Detention Center after 9:00 p.m. Thursday night.
Cole and Martinez were both staying in a dormitory-type cell with nine other inmates. Both men were accounted for during a formal inmate count earlier that evening at 9:00 but were discovered missing after 10:00 p.m.
Grant County officials believe Cole and Martinez escaped the detention center by removing a metal panel from the ceiling, using sheet to climb into the ceiling and followed a pipeline in the roof and escaped the facility through a maintenance door.
At this time various law enforcement agencies have been notified of the escape. Cole and Martinez are believed to be associated with gangs and are considered dangerous.
Martinez was arrested on August 14, 2014 on a warrant for resisting, evading and obstructing an officer and criminal trespass. Officials say he has numerous felonies and misdemeanors and cases pending in the Grant County Magistrate Court.
Cole was arrested by Silver City police on May 5, 2014 on a warrant for failure to appear. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, resisting, evading and obstructing a police officer and bringing contraband into a place of confinement.
If you see Cole or Martinez you are asked to contact police immediately. Warrants have been issued for both men due to the escape.
Contact the Grant County Sheriff’s Department or Crime Stoppers at (575)538-5254 if you have any information about the escaped inmates.
