RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – About 3,000 flags were laid at the Vista Verde Memorial Park in Rio Rancho Friday morning in honor of the victims of 9/11. In addition to the thousands of flags, victims’ names have been written on individual white peace dove flags which were also placed at the memorial.

Volunteers from the Albuquerque Fire Department’s Random Acts of Kidness group, the Children’s Cancer Fund of New Mexico and Daniels Family Funeral Services contributed to the effort.

“It’s become a staunch tradition here at the Rio Rancho Fire Department that we come out here and help the Daniels Funeral Home hanging of flags being here to honor the memory of those that are fallen and also appreciate their efforts in keeping their memories alive,” Ryan Florsheim, captain paramedic said.

This is the fifth year the memorial event has been held in Rio Rancho.

The flags will be in place through September 11th.
