PED takes over charter schools’ finances

The PED will take over the finances for some ABQ charter schools while they undergo investigations into their finances.

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – There is more fallout for the Southwest Learning Center and SAMS Academy.

Wednesday the Public Education Department announced it will be taking over the finances of the charter schools, saying the ongoing investigations by the FBI, state auditor and the PED give them reason to believe there’s mismanagement and improper recording of public school funds.

The head administrator, Scott Glasrud, resigned a few weeks ago. His school boards approved a payout worth about $75,000.

The PED said Wednesday it’s suspending any final payments to Glasrud, while it conducts an ethics investigation. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
