ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The UNM Lobos womens soccer team will play its first game Friday – the first game since the hazing scandal.
They will play Marquette in Colorado Springs.
Last month at an off campus party, older players hazed freshmen teammates by pressuring them to drink until they got sick.
One player was rushed to the hospital after having a hard time breathing. Freshman were also told to strip down to their underwear and sprayed with water.
Head Coach Kit Vela was suspended without pay for a week.
All players – with the exception of freshmen – must serve a one-game suspension.
Those can be staggered, but in all, 22 players will need to sit out a game as soon as possible.
The team’s season opener game was cancelled.
