County to seek 4.5M for new animal shelter

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Bernalillo County will ask voters in November for $4.5 million for a new animal shelter and adoption center.

The county already has $1.5 million on hand, but needs bonds for the rest of the project.

The new center would include a 25,000-square-foot shelter with space for a veterinary clinic.

County officials say construction on the new shelter could begin early next year if voters give it the OK. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
