Lawsuit filed in San Juan Co. Jail beating

SAN JUAN COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A man who said a corrections officer beat him while at the San Juan County jail, has filed a federal lawsuit.

The Farmington Daily Times reports that 31-year-old Crandell Martin said his right to due process was violated and he was subjected to cruel and unusual punishment.

Surveillance video shows then Officer John Robins slamming Martin’s head into a brick wall in July while booking him into the detention center for a probation violation.

The officer was charged July 21 with aggravated battery and has since resigned.
