New threat issued against school shooting victim

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – Deputies in Roswell have arrested an eighth grade student at Berrendo Middle School, the same school where a 12-year-old opened fire in the gym in January and seriously injured two other students.

Deputies say the child was arrested Friday morning after a message threatening another student was found on a bathroom wall.

Parents of Berrendo students said the eighth grader threatened to kill Nathaniel Tavarez, one of the victims of the school shooting.

Parents also said Tavarez is still a student at Berrendo.

Deputies have not said if Tavarez was the threatened student, but they say that student’s parents were told about the threat immediately.

Mason Campbell was given the maximum by a judge for the school shooting, putting him away until he’s 21.
