Abandoned 5-year-old to be reunited with parents

Police say 5-year-old Sasha was left at a gas station by her babysitter.

FORT SUMNER, N.M. (KRQE) – A 5-year-old girl who was left at a Fort Sumner gas station will be reunited with her parents.

According to police 5-year-old Sasha was in the care of a babysitter when she was abandoned at an Allsups gas station in 300 block of east Sumner Avenue near Highway 60 and Highway 84.

Police say the incident happened at 3:30 p.m. when the babysitter told the young girl to get out of the vehicle to pick out a candy bar.

Officials have made contact with the responsible parties. They say the parents are on their way from Portales and they are interviewing the babysitter.

No word yet if anyone will be charged in the incident.
