Man claims arrest was a ‘misunderstanding’

Oliver Arp says his arrest for stealing from an APD bait car was just a misunderstanding.

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man says his arrest during a bait car sting is all a misunderstanding but police say he’s a thief.

The Albuquerque Police Department says video clearly shows Oliver Arp as he steals several hundred dollars worth of items inside a bait car in northeast Albuquerque Thursday.

Police say they arrested Arp after the GPS system on the items alerted them to Arp’s home.

Arp contacted News 13 through email saying he didn’t steal the items.

He claims the car had been parked outside his home for a few days and that he was arrested after he tried to lock the door to secure the items inside.

Arp faced a judge Friday to face auto burglary charges.

He was released on his own recognizance.

The State of New Mexico has dismissed the complaint in this case as of 2017. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
