Jail guards accused of threatening inmates for sex

SIERRA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Three guards at the Sierra County Detention Center are accused of threatening female inmates until they had sex with them.

Truth or Consequences police arrested 38-year-old Virgil Eaton Wednesday following a two month investigation.

According to the criminal complaint, Eaton received oral sex from inmates in exchange for prescription pills and even offered to dismiss an inmate’s charges.

There are still warrants out for the arrests of 22-year-old Miguel Herrera and 23-year-old Joshua Corley. They both used to be detention officers at the jail, but no longer work there.

Herrera and Corley also allegedly had sexual encounters with inmates.

All three men face rape and other charges.

According to the complaint, Eaton has been reassigned during the investigation.
