CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – Carlsbad Caverns National Park is now banning on drones and model airplanes.

According to officials anyone caught using them within the park’s boundaries could face fines and even jail time.

The national park service director ordered all parks back in June to take steps to prohibit the use of the increasingly popular aircrafts that are often used to take photos and videos.

Other national parks in the southwest like Canyonlands, The Arches, Grand Canyon, Bandalier National Monument and Zion have also recently enacted bans. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
