ALBUQUERQUE (KKRQE) – Albuquerque police say a mother tried holding up a school with a pocketknife.

It happened just after 9:00 Wednesday morning when police say 47-year-old Elke Gallegos went to Arroyo del Oso Elementary School.

Gallegos is accused of going into the main office and demanding money from the staff.

When they said they didn’t have any police say she pulled the knife and pointed it at them.

The staff told her again they didn’t have any money and she fled. Police later found her at a nearby park.

The school told police they recognized Gallegos as a parent of one of their students.

She is charged with assault and for taking a weapon into a school.

According to online court records, Gallegos was arrested last month for battery on an officer.
