ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – APS claims former APS superintendent Winston Brooks $350,000 buyout was their best legal option.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, APS says firing Brooks would have resulted in an expensive legal battle.
On Friday, a judge will review the agreement the school board reached with Brooks on Aug. 15.
It includes Brooks’ resignation and a lump sum payment to buy out the last two years of his contract.
If the judge approves the settlement, it will go to the Pubic Education Department for approval.
The board chose to replace brooks after an internal investigation into a personnel matter.
Brad Winter is interim superintendent until a permanent replacement is chosen.
