LAS CRUCES (KRQE) – A former NMSU student is behind bars accused of threatening a mass shooting at the university in May.

The feds arrested 19-year-old Zachary Hess Monday charging him with making the online threat.

According to a criminal complaint, Hess threatened a mass shooting at the school during an anonymous online chat.

Investigators say someone snapped a screen shot of Hess’ message and posted it the NMSU Facebook page. The campus was later evacuated

Hess is on a no bond hold at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
