UNM works to educate parents on student housing

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The recent problems at a new Albuquerque apartment complex, The Cottages has UNM officials trying to educate parents.

The first weekend the complex opened hundreds of people filled the streets some residents say it was so out of control it was scary and then this weekend a shooting there after a fight. No one was hit but several shots were fired.

UNM says because the apartment complex is not on university property of affiliated with them in any way there is nothing they can do except educate parents about the differences between living on campus and off.

UNM officials say they have RA’s in every dorm and Lobo Village to help hold rule breakers accountable and help make sure students are on a path to graduation.

They also provide things like counseling, after hours escorts, shuttles, security and UNM police patrolling.
