Police investigate gas station homicide

Police investigate violent trauma incident

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A man was killed in an early morning shooting Tuesday at a South Valley gas station at Coors and Blake, and now Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputies are looking for the person who pulled the trigger.

Deputies have cleared the scene but up until about 10:30 a.m., the Allsups where the incident took place was blocked off with crime tape with a man’s body in clear view in this parking lot.

Deputies say the man who was killed is 20-year-old Kenneth Perez.

They were first called to the scene around 4:30 a.m. when several neighbors say they heard gunshots. Deputies found the victim’s body in the middle of parking spaces. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Perez’s family members live in a nearby mobile home park. They said Perez left his house around 4 a.m. for the gas station to meet some people – possibly over money. Deputies say there was a fight and Perez was shot. Now they’re looking for who did it.

Family members spent the morning watching the crime scene and say they’re at a loss about what happened.

“Just want to find out who did it,” said Perez’s brother, John Martinez.

Deputies haven’t received any description or details about who they’re looking for at this point. It’s unclear if the victim knew the shooter. Those with any information are asked to call 798-7000.
