Fundraising event cancelled in wake of hazing

UNM womens soccer team

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – There is more fallout from the UNM women’s soccer hazing scandal. This time the school has canceled one of the team’s fundraisers because, under the circumstances, it’s inappropriate.

Tuesday, the Lobo women’s soccer team cancelled a wine-tasting event scheduled for this Sunday.

The team has already seen its opener canceled and every non-freshman player was suspended for one game and the coach suspended for a week without pay. It’s all because of a freshman initiation ritual at an off-campus party, where the players forced the freshmen to drink, strip to their underwear and then others sprayed them with water. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
