The Cottages apartments responds to recent events

Student housing partying catches APD's attention

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A privately-owned apartment complex in Albuquerque responded to the rash of events that are giving it a bad name. The Cottages of New Mexico opened a few weeks ago off of I-25 and Gibson and is home to more than 700 college students.

Last week, police were called to a massive party attended by hundreds of people.

No one was arrested and APD was able to get the situation under control.

Then, there was a shooting at around 4 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, there was another call about more shots fired nearby after a road rage incident. Police said the victim’s car was riddled with bullets.

Officers arrested Shanoah Cauley and Tyvon Green. They said the two are responsible for both shootings.

On Twitter, The Cottages said it is not blaming residents for the recent events and that they are working hard to make changes, including making sure people who don’t belong there stay out. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
