Program to help animals affected by domestic violence

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A new effort launched Monday that is aimed at helping some of the forgotten victims of domestic violence, the animals.

The New Mexico Coalition against Domestic Violence and Animal Protection of New Mexico are working together to find temporary shelter and care for the pets.

The coalition said the suspects often abuse the pets or threaten too, making the victims hesitant to leave their homes.

The details are still being worked out.
