Police investigate possible inmate homicide

SANTA FE (KRQE) – An inmate, who killed another inmate a decade ago, has been found dead in his cell and the case is being investigated as a homicide.

A corrections spokeswoman said Jesus Dominguez was found dead inside his cell at the northeastern New Mexico detention facility in Clayton early Monday morning.

Other inmates are being questioned.

In 2004, Dominguez killed Dickie Ortega of Chimayo while the men were behind bars at the Santa Fe county jail.

At the time of the murder, Dominguez only had 20 more days left to serve.

Authorities said Dominguez killed Ortega because he thought he was a snitch.
