Vortex Theatre plans big move

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – After 37 years, the Vortex Theatre in Albuquerque is moving and the owners say they have a new place to call home.

The theater has been a go-to for locals to watch intimate performances near the University of New Mexico, but now they say they’ve outgrown their old space.

They’re ready to show more people what they have in store now that theater is bigger,

“There’s more theater in Albuquerque every year, every decade, over the last 40 years,” said Vortex co-founder David Richard Jones.

The new location will be at 2900 Carlisle Northeast. In September, a new cast will perform a play written by Oscar award-winning playwright and actor, Steve Martin.
