State Fair ads go in new direction

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – She’s made us laugh with her web videos on things people in New Mexico say, and for the past two years, Lynette La Burquena has invited us to the State Fair. But, don’t expect to see the brain child of New Mexico native Lauren Poole at the fair this year.

“The character that [Poole] devised and put together was just incredible,” said Expo New Mexico General Manager Dan Mourning. “She brought a lot of attention to the New Mexico State Fair, and I think it drew people in that don’t normally think of the fair.”

Mourning said they decided to go in a new direction this year to focus on the classic things that make the fair great. Be it an eating contest or bull riding competition, the 2014 State Fair’s ad campaign asks, “How are you getting ready for this year’s fair?”

Lynette’s pet pig is still hanging around the fair. Mourning said guests shouldn’t count out your favorite Burquena just yet.

“I wouldn’t be so sure that Lynette doesn’t come back at some point,” Mourning said.
