NM man dies in lightweight plane crash

EDGEWOOD, N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico man is dead after authorities say the lightweight plane he was flying crashed in Michigan.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened around 11:30 a.m. near Grand Rapids.

They say 67-year-old Bryan Bowker of Edgewood traveled to Michigan to buy the recreational plane. He was test flying when the crash happened.

Witnesses say Bowker took off successfully once, but crashed while trying a second takeoff.
