Department of Commerce to help unemployed NM miners.

TAOS, N.M. (KRQE) – There’s now a move to help New Mexicans who lost their jobs when the Questa mine closed.

The U.S. Department of Commerce says it will provide $75,000 to Taos County to help get those people new jobs.

Nearly 300 miners at the Chevron-owned Questa mine were laid off back in June. Money will help provide new job training in a number of areas. The mine was opened back in 1916. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
