ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man accused in a string of violent crimes across the metro is now headed to federal prison.

Thursday Raul Ortega was sentenced to 18 years behind bars on carjacking and gun charges. The 21 year old was arrested with an accomplice last year after the two committed a series of armed robberies, car jackings and a home invasion.

Ortega pleaded guilty in February.

His partner in crime, 21-year-old Joel Meeks, also pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing in his case.

He’s facing up to 25 years in prison after leaving a home invasion victim to drown, hog-tied in a bathtub.
