Two men charged with murder of accomplice

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Two men who were involved in a residential burglary are being charged with murder of the third suspect, even though they didn’t kill him.

Miguel Marquez and Luis Vargas-Rivera are facing multiple charges after they accompanied their friend Edgardo Marquez-Ordonez in a burglary Friday morning.

A northeast Albuquerque man was asleep as he was woken up by three men at his door yelling that they were the police. The man said he grabbed his gun and shot at the intruders. He quickly jumped out of his bedroom window and ran to call for help. He would later learn that he shot two of the burglars and one died.

“He has to pay with his life for doing something really stupid that he probably maybe would regret one day, but like I said he’s gone now,” Neighbor Julie Steinberg said.

Now, Marquez and Vargas-Rivera are looking to face prison time for the murder of their friend.

“What people need to understand is if you join your buddy to go commit a felony and your buddy dies you can be the one who gets charged with murder.” APD Public Information Officer, Tanner Tixier said.

Even though the other two suspects did not pull the trigger, they were involved and ultimately committing another crime during the murder.

Marquez was in court Wednesday hearing his charges. Luis Vargas-Rivera is recovering from a gunshot wound in his arm at a hospital. Once Vargas-Rivera is released he will join Marquez in jail.
