Española students to get new school books

ESPANOLA, N.M. (KRQE) – This year kids in Española will be among those getting new school books.

State officials approved $25 million this year for instructional materials like textbooks, workbooks and DVDs in classrooms across New Mexico.

Gov. Susana Martinez says the funding helps schools like those in Española working on a shoe string budget.

“Kids should be reading from the latest and the best books,” she said.

Officials say bilingual books are also being delivered to each of New Mexico’s 89 school districts and 96 charter schools. They’ll help nearly 30,000 students. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
