US Marshals arrest violent carjacking suspect.

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A Santa Fe bicyclist killed by a Rail Runner train back in June, was also the victim of a violent carjacking here in Albuquerque.

Friday the U.S. Marshals Service arrested a woman they say is responsible for that crime.

Michelle Candelaria is charged with robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy.

Marshals say a tip led to her arrest, they found her hiding in a bedroom closet at a friend’s house Thursday night.

Candelaria allegedly held a knife to Joseph Salazar’s throat at the intersection of Louisiana and Zuni southeast.

Salazar survived, only to be hit and killed by the Rail Runner commuter train on Saint Michael’s Drive in June.

Police still don’t know why he didn’t hear the train.

APD is still looking for two of Candelaria’s accomplices in the carjacking. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
