Man wants to bring modern day drive-in to ABQ

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man has a vision of opening a modern day drive-in movie theater in the Duke City.

“The way it started is was when I went to Carlsbad a couple years ago and they have a really cool drive in movie theater down there, and I just fell in love with it, I thought it was such a great way to watch a movie and sitting under the stars, and it just doesn’t make sense to me that there’s not one in Albuquerque, or at least closer to Albuquerque for people to go to.” Chris Hughes said.

Chris Hughes believes Albuquerque should have a drive-in for locals and tourists to enjoy, but he needs help with his project. Hughes wants this to be a community project where everyone who donates has some sort of say in the drive-in theater.

There used to be 45 drive-in theaters in New Mexico, but only 2 are still operating. One is in Carlsbad and the other is in Las Vegas.

Ann and Adam Search of Pennsylvania are currently visiting Albuquerque and thought it’d be a great option to have if they returned.

Hughes also thinks this would be a great way to offer locals more job opportunities.
