Monsoon rains to pick up, flood watch issued

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for north and central New Mexico through late Wednesday.

A storm system moving out of Arizona into New Mexico could produce scattered showers and thunderstorms, officials say. Storms will likely move from the southwest to the northeast with some areas receiving two inches in an hour during the strongest moments.

The following areas could be affected by storms:

  • Far Northwest Highlands
  • Northwest Highlands
  • San Francisco River Valley
  • San Juan Mountains
  • Jemez Mountains
  • Upper Rio Grande Valley
  • Lower Chama River Valley
  • Santa Fe Metro Area
  • Middle Rio Grande Valley/Albuquerque Metro Area
  • Northwest Plateau
