Melissa Martin is accused of kidnapping a child and running over a man with his own truck. MDC officials say she used to be a corrections officer there.

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – News 13 has learned the Albuquerque woman accused of trying to kidnap a boy then running over the child’s father used to be a guard at the Metro Detention Center.

Police say Melissa Martin walked up to a father and son outside McKinley Middle School near Comanche and Washington Sunday night, grabbed the boy and took off.

The father has two prosthetic legs so he couldn’t chase her so he got in his truck.

Martin eventually made her way into the truck and ran over the man’s legs.

MDC officials confirmed Wednesday Martin was a corrections officer at the jail from 2011 until January of this year.

Her mother says she has mental health problems and they are working to help her. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
