Man found guilty of stealing from government

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – The son of an elderly Carlsbad man found dismembered in his backyard has been found guilty of stealing money from the government. Steven Allumbaugh, 63, is accused of killing his father after hitting him in the head back in 2012.

Instead of reporting it, Allumbaugh admitted he chopped his body and buried it in 11 different garbage bags in the backyard. During that year Allumbuagh cashed his dad’s social security checks.

A judge found him guilty of collecting more than $19,000 and he’s now awaiting sentencing.

A trial for the murder of his father has yet to be set.
