ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The uniform of a war hero is finally coming home. George Kirk Sr. was a Navajo Code Talker during World War II.

He served in the Third Marine Division and fought in Guam, Iwo Jima and several other places.

His uniform was lost in 1999 when he died, then turned up at an auction in January of this year.

Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly found out the uniform was about to be sold and negotiated for its return.

It will be unveiled Thursday during a ceremony at the Navajo Nation Museum in honor of Navajo Code Talkers day. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
