Thousands take part in annual Kutz for Kidz

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – As summer winds down, thousands of kids are going back to school this year in style.

On Sunday, more than 5,000 people showed up at the annual Kutz for Kidz event at Expo New Mexico.

The goal was to give kids the confidence to start the school year right.

In addition to stylish new hairdos, kids also got some free supplies and backpacks.

New Mexico State Police also showed up in badge and gear to buddy up to the kids.

“The kids have been coming up looking at the equipment, going into it, taking pictures next to it, asking us questions. So it’s been a real fun interaction,” said Lt. Emmanuel Gutierrez.

There was also a chopper on hand for the kids to look at, live music and food.
