Corrales deals with heavy rain, mudslides

Corrales mudslides

CORRALES, N.M. (KRQE) – It was another day of showers for the metro Sunday as some residents attempted to stay dry.

Things really started pouring and the showers even led to flooding in some areas like Rio Rancho where drivers got caught up in it.

At one point, police had to shut down Highway 528 from Southern to High Resort, but within an hour, those roads were back open.

The quick downpour left Corrales dealing with flooding and a muddy mess.

The torrential rain eventually caused a mini mudslide that caught some drivers by surprise.

Police say at least three drivers got stuck in the mud and some roads were closed.

Crews were working hard to get that mud cleaned up and didn’t expect the closures to last long. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
