Investigation on APS superintendent centered on wife

Winston Brooks

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – News 13 has learned the investigation into APS Superintendent Winston Brooks is centered on his wife.

Friday, the Albuquerque School Board President hired a private attorney to investigate Superintendent Brooks.

President Analee Maestas says she made the decision after a private session between board members last month where she says a serious personnel issue was discussed.

Last November Brooks called 911 after a dispute with his wife at their Cedar Crest home. During that call Brooks told a 911 operator his wife was very angry with him and things got physical.

The call was made on the last day of Brooks’ three day suspension from APS.

He was suspended for tweeting controversial statements about Public Education Secretary Designate Hanna Skandera. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
