ABQ contractor facing more fraud charges

ALBQUERQUE (KRQE) – Three more victims have come forward claiming they paid money to an alleged crooked contractor for work that was never done.

News 13 first exposed Gary Mares On Special Assignment in April. Around that time, he was working for a legitimate Albuquerque business and was pocketing payment for landscaping projects.

Bernalillo County Sheriff’s detectives say he asked at least 13 customers to make a half down payment in checks made out to Mares.

Well BCSO says Mares was up to his old tricks earlier this summer. They charged him with three more counts of fraud Friday.

Mares is still behind bars.
