Man leads police on chase in stolen vehicle

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man was arrested Thursday after leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle.

Police say the incident began when officers responded to reports of a stolen vehicle that was being monitored by GPS. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, a female passenger and a child got out and the driver fled police.

APD said the APD helicopter followed the driver, who drove recklessly even while police were not behind him, to an apartment complex where he stopped and then tried to flee on foot.

Officers arrived on scene and took the driver, who was later identified as Omar Romero, into custody.

Romero has an extensive criminal history. According to APD he has been arrested numerous times and on different charges including DWI, child abuse, larceny, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, receiving/transferring stolen vehicle and probation violation. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
