Man charged with sex trafficking ABQ teen

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A Colorado man made national news when he went on a wild crime spree as deputies chased after him and news choppers hovered overhead. He is accused of holding up a family at gunpoint, stealing cars and damaging property. Now, a Colorado district attorney has announced the man had an Albuquerque teen with him the entire time.

Christopher Sullivan, 37, pointed a rifle and a handgun at drivers along a highway west of Denver two weeks ago.

He is accused of stealing three cars, one was taken from a family at gunpoint. Video shows him as he bursts through a garage door in another stolen SUV until it gets stuck.

A lone deputy closes in on him, eventually taking him down and taking him into custody.

However, Sullivan wasn’t alone at the start of the two-hour chase when he ran from police during a traffic stop. He was with a 17-year-old he met in Albuquerque two days earlier.

The teen told investigators she remembered standing at the bus stop near Carlisle and Central when Sullivan pulled up in a white Crown Victoria and asked if she needed a ride.

Later that day, Sullivan found the teen again. This time, online, when he responded to an escort ad she posted and she agreed to meet him at a motel.

According to an arrest affidavit, he paid her $250 for sex and then convinced her to go with him to Colorado where they could “make money,” saying she could charge more there.

“Mr. Sullivan, we believe, took a juvenile from an adjacent state for the purposes of committing prostitution,” said District Attorney Peter Weir.

The district attorney added child sex trafficking to the 46 charges Sullivan already faces for the crime spree.

The DA’s office said it’s working to get the teen the help she needs.

“The real interest at that point is having enough control over the young person to be able to provide appropriate services,” Weir said.

Even though the 17-year-old woman is a victim in the child sex trafficking case, she has 23 charges against her for her involvement in the attempted escape from deputies.

Authorities aren’t identifying her.

Court records show Sullivan had five warrants for his arrest in Colorado.
