Grants rape suspect faces judge

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A Grants man was in court Thursday to face charges that he brutally raped a woman in Albuquerque.

Joseph Apodaca, 24, cried as he went before the judge. Deputies say he had recently reconnected with the woman over Facebook and when she was visiting in May they met up at a bar.

The woman says after she had a few shots of liquor, she blacked out and couldn’t remember anything.

Deputies say that’s when Apodaca raped the woman so severely, she suffered extensive injuries.

The complaint says Apodaca later dropped the woman off in Belen even calling her father to tell him he needed to pick up his daughter.

Apodaca is charged with rape.

He’s being held on a $100,000 cash or surety bond.
